Petrobras connects its first wind farm to the grid

11.24.2011

Petrobras has announced that its first complete wind farm, located in the Northeastern state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, has come online, eight months ahead of schedule. The wind farm was built in partnership with Electrobras, Alubar Energia and Wobben WindPower.

The wind energy complex is now operating commercially generating wind energy and selling electricity into the national grid, the National Interconnected System. The transmission system is equipped with an internal 34.5 kV distribution network, a 34.5/138 kV transformer substation, and a 138 kV transmission line. Wobben, a Brazilian company funded by Enercon Gmbh, builds the wind turbines.
